About the winery

Maisulan is a small family project in Elvillar, in Rioja Alavesa, started in 2001 by Eva Fernández and Luis Ruiz de Viñaspre, growers who grew up working in the vineyards with their parents. Their vines are spread over small slopes among ravines, almond trees and centuries-old olive trees at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, in Elvillar and Viñaspre. They use no chemicals, irrigation or fertilisers, and follow natural soil management inspired by the principles of Masanobu Fukuoka, with plant extracts and biodynamic practices. They make single-plot and village wines such as Maisulan 6, Maisulan 12, El Hondón, Los Magines and Sobremoro, as well as the Txabola series of single-variety Tempranillo, Mazuela, Graciano and Viura.
