Bodegas Miguel Merino

About the winery

Bodegas Miguel Merino is a small family winery in Briones, in Rioja Alta (D.O.Ca Rioja). It was founded by Miguel Merino, who had worked as a wine exporter since the 1970s and wanted to make quality wines in small quantities; he chose Briones for its old vineyards, varied soils and Atlantic-influenced climate, and the first vintage came in 1994. Since 2017 his son Miguel and his wife Érika have been in charge of viticulture and winemaking. Its vines, on hillsides around the village, were planted between 1929 and 2001, mainly Tempranillo and Graciano, along with Garnacha, Mazuelo, Viura and Garnacha Blanca. It makes Reserva and Gran Reserva wines alongside single-plot wines such as La Loma and La Ínsula, and welcomes visitors by appointment.
