About the winery
Bodegas Montecillo was born in Fuenmayor in 1870, when Celestino Navajas founded his winery with vineyards inherited from his father-in-law, and it is one of the oldest wineries in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. His descendants, trained in Bordeaux and Burgundy, introduced the Bordeaux winemaking method and cold fermentation. In 1973 the Navajas family handed over to the Osborne family, who built the current facilities on the Fuenmayor road, within the municipality of Navarrete. They make classic barrel-aged Riojas and keep bottles from vintages dating back to 1926 in their underground cellars; their ranges include Viña Monty, the Classic range and the Historic Vintages. They offer winery tours, workshops, picnics, activities for children and concerts in their gardens.
