About the winery
Bodegas Noroeste de La Palma makes the Vega Norte wines in Tijarafe, in the north-west of the island, within the La Palma D.O., and has been doing so for more than 25 years. Its vines grow on terraces over volcanic soil, between 1,000 and 1,500 metres above sea level, in Tijarafe, Puntagorda and Garafía. This is mountain viticulture: the harvest is done by hand and they have pre-phylloxera vines of local varieties. They make fresh, citrusy whites, expressive rosés, young reds with red fruit and spice, and fuller-bodied wines from their best grapes. Next to the winery they have a wine shop and tasting room, opened after the island's volcanic eruption, where their wines can be tasted by prior booking and where concerts and cultural activities are held.
