Bodegas Olimarum belongs to the Velasco family of Canalejas de Peñafiel, in the Valladolid part of the Ribera del Duero. For years they made wine for home and sold their grapes to other wineries, until they decided to bottle under their own label and revive the village's winemaking tradition, becoming the first winery founded there. The name comes from the Olmar valley, which climbs from the Duratón river to the plateau where their organic vineyards lie, above 900 metres, with Tempranillo as the main variety and restrained yields. The new, small-production winery has a vaulted barrel hall and makes Olimarum and Olimarum Quercus Pyrenaica. The visit tours the winery and ends with a tasting and a snack, and an extended version adds an old village wine press and an underground cellar.
