Bodegas Ondarre

◍ Navarra

About the winery

Bodegas Ondarre is in Viana, in the Navarre part of the DOCa Rioja, and belongs to the Grupo Bodegas Olarra. It was founded in 1985 with the aim of making terroir wines, and its name recalls a family farmhouse in Azpeitia. Its vineyards climb the slopes towards the Sierra de Codés, above 500 metres and facing south, with many old, low-yielding bush-trained plots over 30 years old. They harvest by hand, sort the grapes on a table and age in new barrels, mostly American oak. They make reds such as Señorío de Ondarre and Mayor de Ondarre Reserva, varietal Graciano and Mazuelo wines, the Los Otros range with Garnacha and white Garnacha, and two cavas, Brut Millennium and Brut Nature. They organise visits for groups.
