In 1906 Juan Otero Colino, born in the nearby district of Sanabria, settled in Benavente, opening a small shop selling wine. He built a “colonial goods and wines” warehouse with a small underground cellar with a capacity of 40,000 litres, where he began making wine. In 1950 his son, Manuel Otero, began a series of expansions and modernisations of the winery, which today, with the third generation, has 150 tanks.
