About the winery
Bodegas Palacios Remondo is in Alfaro, in the Rioja Oriental area of the D.O.Ca Rioja, a town whose winegrowing tradition goes back to Roman times, when it was called Graccurris. The winery was driven by José Palacios Remondo, who championed native varieties and trained the next generation in oenology and viticulture; since his death in 2000 it has been run by his children, with Álvaro Palacios in charge of the technical side. It farms around 100 hectares on the La Montesa and Valmira estates, on the lower slopes of the Sierra de Yerga, with stony soils and about 360 litres of rain a year. Garnacha plays a central role in its wines, and La Montesa, from organically farmed sites, is its best-known red.
