But the wine tradition of the area dates back to the 14th century: at the monastery of Guadalupe, the Hieronymite religious order made up to 7 different wines. From that same century comes the oldest known wine-growing treatise in Spain, called «Libro y Registro de la Bodega del Real Monasterio de Guadalupe». The first Spanish wines to reach America came from this area, since Christopher Columbus set out from here after taking leave of the Catholic Monarchs, who spent long periods in Guadalupe.
