The Cáceres pantry is pure dehesa and vegetable garden: acorn-fed Iberian ham, patatera, migas and a kid stew that welcomes a Ribera del Guadiana red. The torta del Casar, creamy and full of character, is the queen of cheeses.

Pimentón de la Vera (smoked paprika) perfumes stews and cured meats, and the Jerte cherries arrive each spring. Fruit, cheeses and local wines turn any table into a journey through the flavours of northern Extremadura.

Cáceres holds three UNESCO listings: its monumental city of golden stone, the Monastery of Guadalupe and the rock art scattered across the province. Trujillo evokes the Extremaduran conquistadors in every palace and square.

Emperor Charles V chose the Monastery of Yuste, in La Vera, for his final retreat, and that imperial memory still beats there. Traditions, pilgrimages and a wine culture in the Ribera del Guadiana enrich the journey.
