In the 16th century some monks from the district, students of the Theatine order, founded a college in the south of the province of Cuenca, on an estate that came to be called Finca «Los Teatinos». People began to work on it, and little by little a new municipality was created. A hamlet until the mid-17th century, in 1670 it gained independence under the name Casas de Fernando Alonso, a name it still shares today with Teatinos. The Theatine monks became pioneers in growing vines and making wines in the area.
