Wine has been culturally linked to Castile since ancient times. Even in the 16th century, making Ribera del Duero wine was the main economic activity of the area. The current way of making wine in our Ribera del Duero cellars comes from the medieval tradition, when vineyards spread beyond the monasteries. From the 18th century, lagares were built to press the grapes and obtain the must, which was then fermented to make the wine; this wine was later kept in the underground cellars.
