Bodegas Vilaplana is a family project in Caniles, on the Altiplano de Granada, within the D.O.P. Granada. It all began with grandfather Juan, who made the local country wine for the family; his son-in-law Luis Vilaplana and his wife Antonia left Barcelona in 2007, planted vines and built the winery, and today their son Joan, the third generation, is taking over. The vineyards lie between 940 and 1,100 metres and grow Garnacha, Tempranillo, Monastrell, Macabeo, Chardonnay and the local Jaén Blanca. Their wines include Diez Días de Marzo, the rosé Dos Flamencos, Paraje del Mincal, Impía, Zimbra and the natural wines Mincal and Uclías. The visit takes in the estate and vineyard, the winery, and ends with a tasting paired with tapas made from local produce.
