Bodegas Zarraguilla is in Sacramenia, in the north-east of Segovia, and is one of the leading houses of the D.O.P. Valtiendas. It is run by the Martín de Andrés family, known in the village by the nickname Zarraguilla, now in its fourth generation: what began as wine for the household grew under Venancio and is today in the hands of Martín's children. The area owes its vines to the Cistercian monks of the monastery of San Bernardo, and the vineyards benefit from altitude and a very mineral clay-limestone soil. They make everything from the young Manantial de Bodega to crianzas from 40 to 60-year-old vines and reservas and signature wines from old vines, some of them pre-phylloxera. The winery offers tastings, a shop, a museum of farming tools and a restaurant serving roast suckling lamb from an adobe oven, lit to order.
