The D.O.P. Valtiendas has 4 wineries you can visit in the north of the province of Segovia, around the Duratón valley and the Fuentidueña district. The area brings together 16 municipalities, including Valtiendas, Fuentidueña, Sacramenia, Cuevas de Provanco and Carrascal del Río, in a landscape of high plateaus, Romanesque churches and river gorges. A quiet getaway to explore high-altitude vineyards and book your winery visit.
Most of the vineyards lie on the plateau, at an average altitude above 800 metres, on clay soils covered with rounded pebbles that aid drainage and lend a mineral profile. The climate is Mediterranean with continental influence: long winters, mild summers and sharp contrasts between day and night. Tempranillo, known locally as tinta del país, is the main variety, alongside Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Deep-coloured reds and rosés with lively acidity, a good match for roast lamb and suckling pig.
