Clos Pissarra grew out of a friendship between Master Sommelier Emmanuel Kemiji, of Miura Vineyards, and chefs Gerald Hirigoyen, Sylvain Portay and Laurent Manrique, who bought a vineyard in Montsant in 2003 and later added plots in neighbouring Priorat. The winery, completed in 2010, is in Falset, surrounded by the El Sol Blanc vineyard. The name refers to the slate that covers this land. They make single-vineyard wines that state the village and the varieties: El Sol Blanc and Llum, from white Grenache; Aristan, from Grenache and Syrah from Falset; El Mont, Grenache from El Lloar; El Riu, Carignan from El Molar; and El Ramon, from Bellmunt del Priorat. By their own choice they do not belong to the D.O. Montsant or the DOQ Priorat.
