Finca Cárdaba occupies the Coto de Cárdaba, near Valtiendas (Segovia), in the D.O.P. Valtiendas. The estate preserves the church of the former priory of Santa María de Cárdaba, which Count Fernán González and his wife Doña Sancha gave to the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza in 937, and where the monks were already growing vines. In the 1980s it was bought by Carmen and Julián, who restored the chapel and the manor house and planted the first vines in 1999; today it is run by their children, the Sancha family. Its plots, at around 830 metres, are mostly Tempranillo, and the range includes Cárdaba Rosado, Cárdaba Selección, Dominio Carmen and a barrel-fermented Cárdaba Viognier. The visit covers vineyard, chapel and winery and ends with a tasting of three wines and their vermouth El Jardín del Mediquin.
