About the winery
Compañía de Vinos Heraclio Alfaro sits on the El Estarijo estate, just outside Alfaro, in Rioja Oriental and within the D.O.Ca. Rioja. For years the estate was a historic airfield and the winery occupies the old hangars, hence the name, a tribute to the Alfaro-born aviator Heraclio Alfaro. Since 2018 it has belonged to the Terras Gauda Group, which released its first wine that same year. Next to the winery they grow Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo on vines planted in the 1970s, and bring in Garnacha from cooler plots at the foot of the Sierra de la Hez and Monte Yerga. They make Heraclio Alfaro, Heraclio Alfaro Finca Estartijo and Heraclio Alfaro Garnacha, plus an organic Arbequina olive oil.
