Hoplita Historic Vineyards

◍ La Rioja

About the winery

Hoplita Historic Vineyards is a winery in the old quarter of Logroño, in the DOCa Rioja, devoted to recovering and preserving singular plots and century-old vineyards. It takes its name from the hoplites, the citizen-soldiers of ancient Greece, and blends traditional craft with modern technology. It works mainly with Tempranillo and Garnacha, and its wines include Areniscas de San Juan, a barrel-fermented white; 1925 Laderas de San Quílez, a Garnacha; and Finca Los Cerezos, a Tempranillo. The winery occupies an old underground cellar dating back to the late 15th century, which houses the barrel hall. Visits, in Spanish or English, tell the story of the project from vineyard to winemaking and end with a tasting in the cellar; there is also a special tasting, Hoplita & Friends, which adds wines from other wineries around the world.
