About the winery
Jorge Piernas Bodegas y Viñedos is a family winery in Mula, in north-western Murcia, within the D.O. Bullas. The family has been linked to wine since 1940 thanks to grandfather Juan Piernas, and since 2015 his grandson Jorge has been putting a label on the work of two generations. The vineyards lie in two small valleys at around 800 metres, with three plots of Monastrell and one of Syrah, all farmed organically. In the winery everything moves by gravity, in small tanks and open barrels, with no additives or added yeasts, and ageing in 500-litre barrels and clay jars. They make the single-plot Jorge, Juan and Antonio Piernas, from Monastrell, and the village wines Syrah, El Banquete de Platón and Sinesquema. Guided visits cover the whole process, with a walk through the vineyards and a tasting.
