About the winery
Llagar Bernueces, formerly called Llagar el Chato, is one of the oldest cider houses in Asturias. José Menéndez, nicknamed «El Chato», who grew cider apples, decided to find an outlet for his production and in 1881 invested in creating the cider house. In 1940 his son-in-law took over the business, following the traditions learned from «El Chato». When the cider house was nearly a hundred years old, it stopped selling cider and produced it only for family consumption.
