About the winery
This is the family winery Bodegas J. Ramírez, founded in 1988 by grower Jesús Ramírez Aguirre at the foot of the castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Since 2010 it has been run by his daughter, Mª Lurena Ramírez Ramírez, who continues the work she learned from her father. It practises traditional viticulture with estate-grown, hand-harvested grapes. The wines are made by carbonic maceration in stainless steel tanks, followed by traditional treading of the grapes, and are aged in oak barrels in a building with two underground cellars. The range includes young reds, whites and rosés, a barrel-fermented white, crianza, reserva and a private collection. It offers tastings, guided tours and direct sales by prior booking.
