About the winery
Bodegas Las Encomiendas is in Villafranca de los Barros, in the heart of Tierra de Barros, and was founded in 2007 after several generations devoted to the family vineyards; today it is run by the youngest generation, trained in viticulture and oenology. It has some 200 hectares of its own vineyards, growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and Graciano and reviving old Cayetana and Cigüente vines. It works by gravity, with night harvesting and ageing in French oak, and its wines include Unadir, Lengua Azul, Vnadir and Xentia de Juan Carrillo. The classic visit tours the winery with a guided tasting and snacks, and there are tasting courses, night harvesting in season and group experiences, as well as the Hotel Bodega El Moral.
