Raimat is a historic winery on the outskirts of Lleida, in the D.O. Costers del Segre, an appellation it helped to create. Its origins go back to 1914, when Manuel Raventós i Domènech bought arid land and turned it into a large wine estate with a semi-desert continental climate; it keeps a 1918 building by Joan Rubió, a disciple of Gaudí, and a castle. Today the winemaker is Carles Escolar. Among white grapes, Chardonnay, Xarel·lo and Albariño stand out, and among reds, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Syrah. Its range runs from Raimat Abadia, Clamor and Vol d'Ànima to estate wines such as Raimat El Niu, Turons de la Pleta and Turons de Vallcorba, plus cavas and El Polvorí vermouth. The estate can be explored on foot or by bike and has a restaurant offering pairings.
