Señorío de San Vicente

◍ La Rioja

About the winery

Señorío de San Vicente is the Eguren family's winery in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in Rioja Alta (D.O.Ca Rioja), housed in a restored manor house in the village. It was the family's first major venture in Rioja after Sierra Cantabria, and its project is based on a single vineyard, a single variety and a single wine. The vineyard is La Canoca, 18 hectares planted in 1985 on south-facing clay-limestone slopes at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, from a massal selection of the family's oldest vines. The variety is Tempranillo Peludo, a type of Tempranillo with hairy leaf undersides that had almost disappeared. Its only wine, San Vicente, was launched with the 1991 vintage.
