Sidra Canal is a cider house (llagar) in the Linares neighbourhood of Llavandera, in rural Gijón. Its story begins around 1955, when Avelino Canal started pressing his own apples and making and selling cider; today it is run by his son Andrés Canal. The premises occupy three buildings of about 1,500 square metres, with pneumatic and hydraulic presses, chestnut, fibreglass and steel casks and a bottling line. The apples are washed and sorted by hand before crushing. It makes Sidra Natural Canal and El Santu, protected by the D.O. Sidra de Asturias and made from native apple varieties. At the Gijón Natural Cider Festival it was awarded the Tonel de Oro for its long track record. It has no visitor facilities, but visits can be arranged by email.
