Sidra Muñiz is a cider house (llagar) located in Fozana de Abajo, in the parish of Tiñana (Siero), one of the Asturian municipalities with the most cider houses. It was founded in 1934 by José Muñiz Gutiérrez, who began making cider with a traditional press and a capacity of 200 pipes, and gradually expanded the premises with new presses and chestnut casks. In the 1970s it passed to Manuel Riestra, who kept the brand, and in 1990 it became Sidra Muñiz S.A. Today it has a capacity of nearly 2,000 pipes, with three traditional presses and a pneumatic one, cooling for controlled fermentation and its own bottling line. It sells Muñiz Selección de Variedades, Meredal Sidra Natural and Lagar de Muñiz Manzal. The cider house is not open to visitors.
