About the winery

Txakoli Garate is a family winery in Laudio, Araba, within the D.O. Arabako Txakolina. Txakoli has been made on this land for four generations; at first it was for the household and for pilgrims crossing the Garate pass. The move to a professional winery came with Josu Egoitz Zubiaur, who gave up his job as a chef and now runs it as the fourth generation. It has 4 hectares of its own Hondarrabi Zuri, Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratia and Riesling vines, farmed mainly organically, and a small winery among the vines where the grapes are handled almost entirely by hand, combining modern facilities with traditional winemaking. Its txakoli is Irribarrak, and it also makes its own vermouth.
