Valdecontina Viñedos y Bodega

◍ León

About the winery

Valdecontina is a winery in Albares de la Ribera, in the municipality of Torre del Bierzo, on the slopes of the Boeza valley in the Bierzo Alto and within the D.O. Bierzo. It occupies the old vineyards planted in the early 20th century by Don Antolín López, Archbishop of Tarragona, next to a tower that is now the emblem of the project. The estate now has around 20 hectares of organically farmed vines and a winery built in 2003. Its wines aim to respect the identity of each site, such as Valle del Río and La Galapana, both Mencía aged in French oak, as well as single-estate wines. The visit tours the winery with a tasting from tanks and barrels, includes a walk through the vineyard and ends with a tasting in the tower.
