Viñedos Sampedro y Alonso
About the winery
Viñedos Sampedro y Alonso is a project of three grower friends from Villadecanes, in the Bierzo D.O., who come from families devoted to the vineyard for generations and have been tending vines for more than twenty-five years. Their focus is Mencía and their wine is Xardín de Xampedro, a red with vino de paraje status from the Xardín site, on west-facing slopes at around 500 metres. Harvesting is entirely by hand, selecting the bunches one by one; the wine ferments in steel tanks and is then aged in French oak barrels. They aim for honest, artisanal winemaking that keeps the fruit intact, just as their elders did.
