Girona's cuisine is mar i muntanya (surf and turf) in its purest form: dishes that unite Palamós prawns, cuttlefish or chicken with lobster. The anchovies of l'Escala, the suquet de peix fish stew, Pals rice and the sea urchins of the garoinada season set the gastronomic calendar of the Empordà.

The wines of the D.O. Empordà, reds of garnacha and cariñena and above all the sweet garnatxa, accompany cheeses, cured meats and Girona's cream-filled xuixo. A tasting facing vineyards swept by the tramontana wind sums up the character of this land.
