Cava, made by the traditional method with its capital in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, is the great Catalan ambassador, joined by the xarel·lo whites of the Penedès and the mineral garnacha and cariñena reds of the D.O.Ca Priorat —one of just two qualified appellations in Spain— and of Montsant. In the north, the Empordà makes wines shaped by the tramontana wind between the Pyrenees and the Costa Brava.
